Wisconsin Humane Society receives more than $60K in donations from the Betty White Challenge

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- A nationwide challenge encouraging people to donate money to animal shelters in honor of Betty White went viral on Monday, Jan. 17 -- what would have been the actress' 100th birthday.

The Betty White Challenge raised thousands of dollars for animal shelters across the country.

On Tuesday, the Wisconsin Humane Society announced that more than 1,600 donors contributed more than $60,000 in donations to their shelter.

In a social media post, the humane society wrote in part, "This tremendous wake of kindness will help countless animals and the people who love them. We are endlessly grateful. Thank you all -- and thank you, Betty."
