Wisconsin leaders react to U.S. capture of Venezuela's leader after 'large scale strike'
rarrarorro/iStock WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Early Saturday, Jan. 3, President Donald Trump announced that the United States of America carried out a "large-scale strike against Venezuela" and captured the country's leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
The decision has come with mixed reactions amongst members of Wisconsin's congress.
In a statement, Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin says the attack quote "puts American troops in harm's way with no transparency, justification or clear path forward."
Republican Representative Scott Fitzgerald applauds President Trump's actions, in a statement he said, "no individual, no matter how powerful, is above the law when Americans have been harmed by narco-terrorism."
Forward Latino released their own statement on the attack, stating "While Forward Latino stands in unwavering solidarity with the oppressed people of Venezuela and their legitimate aspirations for freedom, dignity, and self-determination, and believes strongly in the need for the U.S. promote and support democracy around the globe, we strongly oppose the unilateral action being taken by this administration."
