Wisconsin to honor fallen firefighters with half-staff flags

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Gov. Tony Evers has directed that flags be flown at half-staff on Sat, Oct. 7 and Sat, Oct. 14, in tribute to firefighters who have sacrificed their lives while performing their duties.

This executive order aligns with the Final Alarm Ceremony and Silent Procession scheduled for Oct. 7 at the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial Park in Wisconsin Rapids.

Another recognition will take place on Oct. 14, marking Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day during Fire Prevention Week, which runs from Oct. 8 through 14.

"Each and every day, Wisconsin firefighters risk their own health and safety to serve their neighbors," Gov. Evers stated in the press release announcing the order, emphasizing the importance of remembering "the selflessness and bravery of those firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty."

Flags will be lowered from sunrise to sunset on both aforementioned Saturdays.
