WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Witnesses are recounting the moments after a fatal hit and run in West Allis. How the community came together trying to help the victim while also chasing down the driver.

Those who knew the woman who was killed Thursday afternoon while walking across this West Allis Street tell us she worked in security, protecting the public. It's fitting then that so many rushed to try to help her.

"Somebody pulled over right away and got out too, put their hand on their back and started trying to see if she was okay, another vehicle pulled kind of a U-Turn that was westbound and blocked traffic so that she wouldn't be run over again," said Bob Libbey, Witness.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner identifies the victim as 63-year-old Jennifer Milliman. Seth Lapalm was at the red light at National and Greenfield and witnessed the whole thing.

"And she was like two steps off the curb and that's when it all happened and I'm just like 'oh my God,' and I literally started screaming, 'oh my God,'" said Lapalm.

Lapalm says the accident happened as the driver was taking a sharp right turn onto National from Greenfield, an intersection that also crosses 62nd Street.

"Because we have three streets coming together people are confused about you know when to go, when to turn, so there are things happening all the time," said Libbey.

When the driver kept going after hitting the pedestrian, Lapalm got the cops on the phone and followed him.

"I'm beeping at him at the very first stop light. I'm putting my arm out the window telling him 'pull over, pull over,." said Lapalm.

Police eventually caught up, telling us the driver is a 91-year-old man.

We've learned Jenny Milliman lived on a block in South Milwaukee for years and neighbors there are mourning the loss.

"I'd see her almost every day when she'd come home from work. Jenny was a nice neighbor, always friendly, and we're gonna miss her," said William Mark, the victim's neighbor.

Police tell us the driver is not presently in custody. The District Attorney is expected to review the case in the next week.
