Woman sentenced to probation after crash that seriously injured 2-year-old

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- 24-year-old Shannon Sutters was sentenced to two years' probation after a crash that severely injured her 2-year-old. Sutters was sentenced on Wednesday, March 6.

The crash happened on Saturday, April 29 of last year. It happened near Sherman and Burleigh.

Officials said a county bus was traveling on Burleigh when it was struck by a Nissan traveling on Sherman. Sutters admitted to driving the Nissan at the time of the crash.

Her son sustained serious injuries. He was not in a car seat at the time of the crash. Sutters allegedly said her son was buckled in, but she knows he can unbuckle himself. The criminal complaint noted all three seatbelts in the backseat were fastened and the vehicle did not have any sort of child seat.

Court records show that Sutters pled guilty in court.
