Woman Turning Blue from Choking Saved by Racine County Sheriff's Deputy

On Wednesday, September 12 at 2:15 PM, the Racine County Dispatch received a 911 call for a 53-year-old woman who was choking on her food at a home in the 1100 block of 11th Avenue in the Village of Union Grove. The caller said the woman had food coming out of her nose and her lips were turning blue.

A Racine County Sheriff’s Deputy responded while the patient was still choking on the food. The woman was conscious but unable to speak.

The Deputy quickly administered the Heimlich maneuver and successfully dislodged the obstruction in the patient’s airway. The woman quickly recovered and was not transported to the hospital.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office credits the deputy's emergency medical training to prevent the woman's death.
