WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Parents in Wauwatosa gathered Monday night for the kickoff of the Yes to Tosa Kids campaign.
The campaign is aimed at gathering support to pass the school district's two proposed budget referenda which would raise more than $100 million to fund the district's operations and renovate older buildings.
Tosa's referenda comes after a controversial one in Milwaukee which asked for a quarter-billion dollars while taxpayers weren't aware of the financial trouble the district was in.
"They didn't have a plan," said Yes to Tosa Kids treasurer Chris Bauer. "They had a hole in the budget. In Wauwatosa, there's actually a plan. There is a facilities plan that goes all the way out to 2075, there is a staffing budget that is already in place. It's about having a plan and knowing where that money is being spent prior to even asking for it."
The district is facing a more than $50 million budget shortfall without more money from taxpayers.
The referenda will be up for a vote this November.
