1-on-1 with the Brewers fan who got hyped after catching home run ball

KANSAS CITY (CBS 58) - It might have been the best play of the night on the Brewers side, both in how the play started and how it finished.

Gary Sanchez hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning Monday night, the only Brewers runs in a 3-2 loss to the Royals. As the ball was sailing over the wall and toward the fountains in center field, Brewers fan Jake Starck made a leaping grab to snag a souvenir and keep it from getting all wet.

Starck has been in this position before. The home run ball was his 24th in a Major League Baseball game, the fan told Sophia Minnaert during an in-broadcast interview on Bally Sports Wisconsin. Starck leapt into the air, flapped his arms like a bird, and then shoulder-jumped with a few of his buddies.

Starck, sporting a Sal Frelick Brewers hockey jersey from a recent American Family Field fan giveaway, says he collects all the home run balls he catches and matches them with ticket stubs. His first home run ball was from Rickie Weeks in 2011.

Starck wears a pink glove to honor his mom, who died from breast cancer in 2005.

The Brewers and Royals continue their series Tuesday night at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
