WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 13-year-old boy is being charged as an adult in a deadly hit-and-run in Wauwatosa.

It happened last week outside the Holiday Inn Express near North Avenue and Mayfair Road.

Police identified the woman killed as 47-year-old Sunita Suratu Balogun-Olayiwola.

Balogun moved to the U.S. from Nigeria 15 years ago. She was killed on Oct. 14.

Wauwatosa police say she'd been found sleeping in her Jeep last month.

On Oct. 14 she was at a restaurant when she spotted some teens breaking into a car at the Holiday Inn Express.

The complaint says one of the teens implicated in the attempted theft told police they came to Tosa with the intent to steal a vehicle. They busted out a window, but were scared off.

Balogun rushed over from across the street to tell hotel security.

Security told police, and moments later, she got into her Jeep.

Not long after, police say Balogun caught up with the group, got out of the vehicle and confronted them.

Police say during the confrontation, the 13-year-old -- identified as Jayden Adams -- got past Balogun, hopped into the driver's seat, punched her in the face, then kicked the door into her face. She fell, he hit the gas and ran her down. He then picked up his friends and they took off.

“It's a tragic event. Not only is it tragic, it shocks the conscience. It also tests the safety that one might feel in their community,” said Wauwatosa Police Cpt. Jack Morrison.

“We also want to extend our condolences, our sincerest condolences to the victim's family and we hope that today with this announcement that there is some closure that they can work towards when it comes to this tragic case."

Police say after her death, the teen used her credit card to purchase items at a Walmart.
