MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- MPD has offered a description of a vehicle suspected of striking two young boys on Florist and Teutonia Monday afternoon.

Officials say an investigation indicates the vehicle involved is a burgundy or red Honda Civic or Accord with black hubcaps.

According to a family member, the victims are brothers. Two other children were also walking with the boys, but were not hit.

"It appears maybe some of the children were looking, maybe the others weren't looking keenly at oncoming traffic, and that's how the accident, we believe at this time may have happened," said MPD Captain Heather Wurst.

The crash comes just 11 days after a hit-and-run driver hit three kids near 22nd and Center, killing two little girls.

"When I was turning on Florist, I seen a little boy in the middle of the street laying down," said witness Rheanna Bradshaw. "I couldn't imagine hitting something - anything - and just running it over and just leaving."

"Fortunately, it doesn't appear that there will be any - there won't be a death in this particular case," said Captain Heather Wurth. "But this is difficult for our community, and we've seen the tragedies that have occurred from reckless driving. And our officers are not immune to that as well."

"We need to slow down, and we need to do better," she said.

An investigation is ongoing.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee officials are investigating a hit-and-run crash that injured two children near Teutonia and Florist on Monday afternoon, Nov. 4.

According to MPD Captain Heather Wurth, four children were walking home from a gas station about a block from home around 4:30 p.m. Monday. When they attempted to cross the street, two of the children were struck by a car.

The children are believed to be a 4-year-old and 6-year-old, both boys. Police say they were struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Florist Ave. The other two children were unharmed and ran home to tell their parents.

After hitting the children, the vehicle fled the scene.

MFD says the injured children were taken to Children's Wisconsin.

Police say the 4-year-old is being treated for minor injuries, and the 6-year-old is being treated for serious injuries.

"The injuries at this time do not appear to be life-threatening," said Captain Heather Wurth. "They are serious injuries, substantial injuries to both of the children, who are alert and talking at this time."

"At this time, I can only urge the public to be mindful of their driving, and looking at their traveling and doing so safely, avoiding the reckless behavior that we've seen, most certainly with the tragedy in district number three over the past week," she said.

A school bus at the scene was not involved, but those inside and others outside, saw what happened.

MPD is currently seeking a suspect. They have recovered some surveillance video that they will be reviewing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 414-935-7360 or call Milwaukee Crime Stoppers at 414-224-8477.
