DODGE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- We are learning new details about a shooting that happened at a senior apartment complex in Mayville Wednesday night, Sept. 16. Authorities say three people were shot by a 72-year-old man and then the shooter turned the gun on himself.

CBS 58 talked to a woman who tried to help those who were hurt. She said it felt like a movie scene; when she went outside there were dozens of police officers and people lying on the ground screaming for help.

"I thought this was the safest place to me, and something like this to happen it’s a shocker," said the woman who to tried to help. "I looked through the window and I could hear someone say, 'Help me, I’ve been shot.'"

She saw people lying on the ground bleeding.

"She was down on her face, she got shot twice," the woman said. "You see your friends there, one over there, you can’t help them.”

It all happened at Spring Glen Apartments on Horicon Street in Mayville, an elderly housing facility.

Officials say three people – two women and a man -- were in the parking lot when a 72 year-old man approached the group. There was an exchange of words, police say, when the man pulled out a gun and shot all three people then himself.

"Why he did it, we are so puzzled," said the woman who tried to help.

The woman said it happened so quick, within five minutes. All three victims were her close friends.

“It’s just sad it happened the nicest people here," said said.

Police say all four victims -- a 53-year-old woman, a 64-year-old woman and a 67-year-old man -- knew each other. They were all transported to local trauma centers and they are all expected to survive.
