Police investigate carjackings near a Hales Corner school and a Germantown senior living facility

GERMANTOWN/HALES CORNERS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Two carjackings in broad daylight happening in two different local communities just hours apart on Wednesday, April 28. Police recovered both vehicles in Milwaukee.

Hales Corners detectives say a mom was waiting for her children in the car pickup line outside St. Mary Parish School Wednesday afternoon. She was approached by two men on Brookside Road. They showed a gun and told her to get out of the car. The two hopped in and left the scene.

“It never happened like this before, this was the first time and I was so scared," Wioletta Bartoszek said. She is a parent.

“I don’t open my window and you know, I try to be really close to another car.”

“We don’t hear anything happening like this at our parishes and schools, the school has informed parents so they can take extra precaution," Sandra Peterson said. Peterson is the director of communications for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. 

Just hours before this carjacking, Germantown police were responding to a carjacking at the Fairway Knoll senior living facility. It happened  around 12:30 p.m. Police say a man was about to leave when the suspect walked up and pointed a gun to his head, demanding his keys and wallet. The second suspect approached the man and pulled him out of the car, forcing him to the ground. They took the car and left.

“This is unique, this is not a common thing that happens in Germantown, especially given the time of day. Particularly alarming because there were a lot of people in the area, so very concerning for us," Mike Snow said. He is Germantown's chief of police.

The two incidents are under investigation. The cars stolen were a BMW and a Mazda. Policed have not said if the two are related.
