GREENFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Rehearsals are underway inside the Greenfield High School theater as students prepare for their upcoming production of the Broadway classic Guys and Dolls.

The musical, set in the 1950s, follows a group of gamblers and showgirls navigating love and luck in New York City. Students say the show combines everything they love about performing — from music and dancing to acting.

“I love music. That’s kind of what got me into it [theater] in the first place,” said Tisha Campos Pena, who plays Miss Adelaide. “But the acting, the dancing, just putting on entertainment is something I’ve always loved.”

Campos Pena describes her character as bold and lively. "She’s very out there, bubbly, very much a diva,” she said. “I love playing characters like that.”

For junior Romario Ortega, who plays gambler Sky Masterson, theater wasn’t always part of the plan. “I actually never saw myself doing this,” Ortega said. “But one of my friends convinced me to try out freshman year when we did The Drowsy Chaperone, and I ended up playing the lead.”

Since then, Ortega has continued performing, including playing the prince in Cinderella.

Greenfield High School’s production of Guys and Dolls opens in just over a week.

The annual senior citizen dinner and show is already sold out, but tickets are still available for performances Friday through Sunday.
