MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - Over 100 Milwaukee Brewers fans were spotted in the upper deck on Friday night at American Family Field with their shirts off and waving them in the air.
The Brewers broadcast mentioned the crowd several times, as it continued to grow throughout the game.
“It started off small, the tarps off thing, it was probably 10 people maybe and then all of a sudden it started growing,” Brewers fan Brayden Coch said. “It kept growing for about three innings and it was about four or five sections at that point.”
The crowd gathered in the 400 sections of the ballpark.
“I wanted to join them but at the same time I couldn’t because my girlfriend's family was there with me at the game,” Coch said.
The Brewers released a statement over the weekend, showing their support for the fan-inspired movement, but also saying it can’t always happen.
“We are very supportive of tarps off that we see at stadiums around the country, including American Family Field,” a Brewers Spokesperson said. “Those sections are near capacity with fans who have purchased seats there, and that leaves little room. When open seating is not available, we have to limit access to that area.”
Brewers fans at the game on Memorial Day were excited to potentially jump into the fun.
“I’ve had my shirt off at county stadium,” Brewers fan Robb Hoppe said. “It’s classic Milwaukee, this is the way the fans celebrate here, I absolutely would join.”
