A grooming galaxy on wheels: Milwaukee friends transforming pets with color & care
MILWAUKEE, WI (CBS 58) -- Grooming can be stressful experience for pets, but a Milwaukee duo is shaking things up-- bringing bold colors, creativity and comfort straight to your door.
Whitney Black and Courtney Kienbaum are Co-Owners of Cosmic Cuts and Colors in Milwaukee. They've been best friends for 16 years and decided to start a business together.
"I knew I wanted to start my own business. I decided mobile grooming is what I wanted to do. I myself am a very colorful person and I just needed my business to shout me and to shout color," said Black.
It's a mobile pet grooming business with an out of this world theme.
"Both of us as friends we've always just been in love with space. I love her animals. I love my animals, being able to do this together has been a big blessing in my life and I took the opportunity because it seemed something I could actually pour my heart into. On the back of the bus, we added two of our dogs we rescued, and I have one of my cats on the back," said Keinbaum.
Before liftoff, every pet gets some pre-launch pampering. We had the opportunity to see Caesar the dog be groomed inside the cosmic cruiser.
"When we start, they come on the bus we walk them in, we give them a bunch of treats. We normally put them on the table, we start slow, do their paw pad trim, do their nails," said Black.
Some pet owners want to take advantage of the 'cosmic colors' element of the business too. They can do just about any design you put your mind to.
"We start with our color first, brush out the fur, make sure there are no knots. Like we will do today on our little man Cesar. We will dye his tail we will do one color at a time do different colors," explained Black.
"The coloring is all organic, it's all made from plants its plant derived. We take pride in what we put on your animal. Whether that is the color, the shampoo, the conditioning anything of the sort," said Keinbaum.
"We rinse them out, give them a bath, and do a bunch of shampoos. When we are done washing, we blow dry them. We pride ourselves in helping dogs and cats that have anxieties. Being able to be able to come to people being able to provide a good grooming without any anxieties is one of the best things I've been able to witness," said Black.
"In-between baby talk and between treats, being able to love on that animal has been so fulfilling. Other than being able to make your animals look ten times cuter and happier and brighter, the animals actually love it because they get attention for it," said Keinbaum.
Every pet gets that special star-studded final touch.
"Our drawer of bows really excites me so much color. Everybody gets a bow, or we have bandanas to match our cosmic theme," said Black.
Still, the best part for this dynamic duo is the bond they create with your pets.
"I know that grooming is a really hard thing for a lot of animals. It's scary, they're away from their parents and they are in unfamiliar territory. There is nothing like building that bond with a grooming dog that makes my heart sing," said Black.
"16 years ago, I didn’t think we would be doing business together. Now being able to do this we wake up and get to go to work together and bond over something that we both really have loved for a long time in our lives," explained Keinbaum.
