A quick turn to winter for this second weekend of November

NOW: A quick turn to winter for this second weekend of November
NEXT:

5:45pm UPDATE:

Our wintry mix has entered Southern Wisconsin, but this evening temperatures are holding still above the freezing point, so as of now nothing is sticking.  We are making the transition to snow from rain, with a moderate band of snow areas northwest of the City.

Accumulation, if any is very little tonight, but with gusty northerly winds returning tonight to cool us off, that is where we could see our first little accumulation.  About a trace to a half of an inch for most away from the Lake is likely through early tomorrow morning.  Icy roads are likely.  We do then turn quiet, dry, and even sunny for a majority of your Sunday.  Many areas will see temps return to above freezing, so anything that accumulated will melt away.

A second round of snow is expected to return tomorrow evening and be more impactful.  A Winter Storm Watch is issued for the Chicago area through NW Indiana and SW Michigan as lake effect snow is expected creating bands of heavy snow to fall just south of us.  This is important because the band of L.E. snow has the potential to impact areas the Southern Milwaukee County, as well as Racine and Kenosha Counties.  Accumulation will hold highest for these areas and mainly on grassy surfaces.  As it stands now about 1-2" overall is expected for these areas.  Away from the Lake will stay quiet.

We will turn to completely below freezing into Monday morning, and this is when snow will accumulate.  Any snow that melted and is still lingering will freeze, so an icy start to your Monday is expected.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58)--On average, we get our first trace of snow in early November and our first measurable amount by the middle of the month.  We'll certainly see a dusting of slushy accumulation, especially on grassy surfaces as we get into Saturday night and early Sunday.  An inch of so can't be ruled out away from the lake.  Snow showers, on and off, will linger through Monday.  Lake effect snow will really take hold late Sunday night through Monday afternoon around Chicago and northwest Indiana.  A Winter Storm Watch is in place, and some could see more than a half of a foot of snowfall.  The rest of the week should be fairly quiet and getting milder.  We'll go from the 30s to low 40s to start the week to the low 50s by the middle and latter part of the week.

Have to watch for Lake Effect snow bands setting up Sunday night into Monday morning.  Could add to accumulation amounts...

Here are the average firsts with snow events...

Wind chill numbers will be frigid into early next week...
