Affordable housing is a priority in County Executive Crowley's State of the County Address
MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley took to the stage at Discovery World for this year’s State of the County Address.
A county is only as good as the investments made into it -- that's the message Crowley wants people to know.
“You know, when I first took office, my number one priority was to put Milwaukee County on a path of financial stability," said Crowley. "The county is expected to generate roughly $84 million in sales tax revenue and beyond.”
During Tuesday’s State of the County Address, Crowley stated the county is in better shape than it’s ever been because of additional funding.
“Whether that’s from the ARPA funds or because of the passage of Wisconsin Act 12, we’ve been able to do a lot more than we have in past years," said Crowley.
One of the focuses of that funding was investments in affordable housing.
“That’s why we’ve deployed $15 million in APRA funds for affordable housing developments across five different Milwaukee County suburbs," said Crowley.
Crowley says the county can’t expand without investing in people first.
“We can’t talk about workforce development and transportation without thinking about where people are going to lay their head at in order to get to and from those job opportunities," he said.
Crowley says these are the investments that can continue to move forward with support from across the aisle.
"I think of the past couple of years, not just myself but many constituents across this county and across this country quite frankly want to see government working for them," said Crowley.
