MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Spring break season is here and airports across the country are seeing more and more travelers.
Leaders from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport said March will be their busiest month since the pandemic began more than a year ago.
"We have seen an influx of travelers,” Mitchell Airport marketing coordinator Christie Green said. “We’re ready for the passengers with enhanced cleaning measures and safety measures.”
Right now, several precautions are in place at the airport including social distancing markers and a mask requirement.
Travis Case of Evansville, Wis. and his family headed to Florida on Wednesday, Mar. 24.
“Ready to get down there,” he said. “People want to be cautious and I think everybody is doing a great job of keeping things safe for everybody.”
According to the Transportation Security Administration, airports across the country saw 1,360,290 travelers on Monday, Mar. 22, up around 900,000 travelers from the same day in 2020. However, numbers are not back to normal as TSA saw 2,542,643 travelers on the same day in 2019.
“I know six or seven families right around me that are all leaving this week too, going south, Arizona or wherever,” Case said.
According to Green, the top destinations from Milwaukee are Florida, Arizona and the Caribbean.
