MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- More Milwaukee County residents will be able to track their own blood pressure, thanks to the new "Screen and Refer" hub unveiled today at McGovern Park Senior Center.
This program offers equipment with instructions on how to take your own blood pressure, and a list of local health care providers who are ready to answer questions. Thursday's unveiling is part of a long-term plan to make the county more heart healthy.
"Cardiovascular health is a huge issue right here in our own community. One of the leading causes of death right here within Milwaukee County. And we see a 50% higher chance particularly for Black, older adults. And so, this has been a wonderful experience, a wonderful tool to have in our senior centers," said Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley.
There is already a Screen and Refer hub at Milwaukee's Clinton Rose Senior Center.
The goal is eventually to have them in all five of the county's senior centers.
