Brady Street icon on road to recovery after hit-and-run crash; suspect remains at large
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A man praised as a Brady Street icon returned to the popular street, months after being hospitalized being struck by a hit-and-run driver.
Quincy Alexander, 41, returned to the popular street, greeting people, and sharing hugs.
Alexander, who many know as "Q," was hit by a hit-and-run driver in May. The accident left him in the hospital for more than a week, along with life-threatening injuries, and tragic memories for a lifetime.
"The light was green, and I had the right of way, I let the first car go past, but the second car didn’t stop, it ran right into me," said Alexander.
Over the past several months, Alexander has been working on recovering, including doctor's appointments and physical therapy, to he can be back to a place he calls home.
"Getting my walk back together, getting my strength back together, and everything, so I can come out here and visit my friends because I know they missed me, and I missed them too," said Alexander.
Alexander is now advocating for road safety.
"Let this be a wake-up call to every driver, please put down the cellphones, I don’t want the same thing that happened to me, to happen to nobody else," said Alexander.
Sunday, Aug. 27, Jack's American Pub will host a fundraiser beginning at 12 p.m. to help raise money to go toward Alexander's medical bills.
Milwaukee police continue to look for unknown suspect(s) in this case.
