Fight at Fond Du Lac County Courthouse delays sentencings of suspects in 2023 Maplewood Commons deadly shooting
FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Multiple people face charges in connection to a chaotic brawl inside the Fond Du Lac County Courthouse.
It happened during the sentencing of 16-year-old, Parise Larry Jr, who is convicted of murder in connection to a shooting at Maplewood Commons in May of 2023.
At one point, family and friends of both the teen and his victims started verbally fighting which turned physical.
The judge immediately adjourned the hearing.
Sheriff's deputies and Fond Du Lac police officers worked to regain control and the group dispersed into the hallway, where more yelling and noise disturbed three other court hearings happening at that time.
Law enforcement eventually was able to gain control of the situation.
An adult female was arrested for disorderly conduct and booked into jail. Some individuals were escorted out of the building.
Some individuals did linger outside the courthouse and occasionally engaged in verbal arguments in the north parking lot of the City County Government Center. Deputies and officers that were present to monitor the crowd outside arrested an adult male.
The adult male arrested was later identified as the instigator of the initial argument within the courthouse. He was arrested for resisting arrest and refusing to follow law enforcement commands. He was escorted and booked into jail.
The disturbance resulted in the next sentencing of Antonio Johnston, the other suspect in the deadly shooting, to be delayed for an hour and a half.
Larry and Johnston are suspects in the Maplewood Commons deadly shooting that happened in May of 2023 that killed one person and injured two others.
Larry and Johnston were both sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of release.
In a press release, District Attorney Toney stated, "Our community is safer with these two defendants off our streets and we will continue to work with law enforcement partners to aggressively prosecute gun violence, regardless of age, to protect our community."
