MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- CBS 58's Alex Corradetti visits Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue in Mukwonago to share why this rescue is so special to her.

Bichon and Little Buddies is a dog rescue with about 30 dogs being taken care of at any given time. They are located at 828 Perkins Drive in Mukwonago, Wisconsin.

Their team works hard to provide love and care for dogs of all conditions.

CBS 58 spoke with Kennel Manager & Foster Coordinator Ashley Kronschnabel.

"We started off as a strictly bichon rescue but over the years we found out that more and more dog breeds needed help, so we expanded to little buddies. We usually take in small dogs but do take in the occasional big dog. We focus a lot on puppy mill dogs and the puppies that come with them," said Kronschnabel.

Kronschnabel says they get dogs in all conditions.

"We get really healthy puppies and adults but then there are times where we get dogs with broken bones hit by cars, just a myriad of diseases, we take them to our vet and get them all healed up before they get adopted," explained Kronschnabel.

None of this would be possible without their hardworking staff.

"The girls that work here are so passionate about the wellbeing of the dogs and socializing with them and the enrichment... they do a lot of activities with them," said Kronschnabel.

The rescue has a meet and greet room recently remodeled by a volunteer. In this space, you can provide the dog with a homier environment to let people know how the dog would act outside of a kennel.

There are a lot of dogs up for adoption on their website. So, we asked how someone would go about adopting one officially.

"You'd fill out an application, then make an appointment to meet the dog and if it goes well... then they could probably take that dog home that day as long as it's ready medically," explained Kronschnabel.

The team says it's always rewarding to watch a dog change over time.

"It's really great watching them learn how to be a dog. A lot of these dogs really haven't had the chance to be a puppy and you watch them play with their first toy or go for their first car ride and they just really love it. Try rescue before you go to a breeder, if there is a dog you could love in a rescue, they really appreciate a home.

Bichon and Little Buddies is having an open house on Saturday, June 22 from 1-3pm. At the event, you can meet the dogs available for adoption. In order to adopt one of their dogs, you must apply and be approved and meet the dog.
