MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In Milwaukee, Mayor Cavalier Johnson, alongside the Department of Public Works (DPW), addressed the city's leaf collection process.
After a long winter, the leaf collection process was delayed due to pretty heavy snow and ice storms.
The winter weather was then followed by severe flooding, with the leftover leaves further complicating rain drainage.
Now, Mayor Johnson wants to change the city's approach so crews will be more prepared for a chance in weather patterns.
"That's why we are moving forward with a new approach this fall residents are going to have some options. Residents will have the option to bag their leaves for collection using paper lawn bags; we will also continue to support traditional rake-out collection as well," said Mayor Johnson.
The new system will be in place this fall.
DPW is asking those who choose to bag their leaves to leave them at the curb for a more efficient pickup.
