MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- On Wednesday, city officials behind "Growing MKE" held another public meeting seeking input from community members in the Milwaukee area.
Growing MKE is an initiative that's focused on expanding housing options for residents, and it starts by updating current zoning policies.
Experts say proposing changes to zoning could encourage both affordable housing choices and overall growth, as different styles of housing would then be permitted in Milwaukee neighborhoods.
According to the plan, that could "remove barriers perpetuating racial and economic segregation."
"We want to use this process to identify ways that we can continue to support that mix of uses that make our city walkable and dynamic that have made Milwaukee such a great city over the years," said Sam Leichtling, a city planning director for Milwaukee.
Officials added the plan's goal is to make the area stronger and more resilient while also achieving fiscal sustainibility and a thriving community.
The proposal is expected to undergo review by the common council.
