MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Medical College of Wisconsin and community leaders got together at Central Standard in Milwaukee Tuesday to host "Cocktails for a Cause."

It's part of a movement to raise funds to fight cancer and fund research for a cure.

The event was organized by Audaxity, the Medical College's upcoming bike ride at American Family Field, which is meant to raise even more money, with proceeds going to the Medical College's Cancer Research Center.

Community leaders got behind the bar as guest bartenders, serving signature cocktails to raise money for cancer research.

Organizers say they thought the cocktail party was a good way to mix Wisconsin culture with people's generosity.

"What does Milwaukee do better than anything, is have a cocktail, and we're combining that with raising funds for cancer research that benefits people that live here," said Lauren Bennett, managing director of Audaxity.

Organizers are hoping to raise $5,000 Tuesday night.

Audaxity's AmFam bike ride is on Aug. 17. For more information, click here
