Mild and windy most of this week with another big storm system
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The home opener for the Milwaukee Brewers is just two weeks away, and American Family Field is ready.
Monday morning, March 17, the grounds crew removed both the infield and outfield blankets covering the 2.3 acre playing surface.
Despite the harsh Milwaukee winter, the grass couldn't be any greener -- that's thanks to the work of the grounds crew who say it's a year-round effort to keep the field in tip-top shape.
"I mean it's all about playability and aesthetics for everybody, trying to do our job and make it the best most playable playing surface in Major League Baseball for them," said Ryan Woodley, senior director of grounds for the Brewers. "A big part of our job is to keep it consistent throughout the year, so we get a bunch of different events and stuff like that. What makes or breaks us is the consistency of the playing surface and if we can keep it at that level than the players are happy with it."
The Brewers will take the field for their home opener on March 31 against the Kansas City Royals.
