MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Courage+ is an organization that raises awareness and provides support for LGBTQ+ youth across Wisconsin. This year, they're kicking off Pride Month with a symbolic art installation.

You'll see colorful flowers growing through the cracks of sidewalks and accompanied by a QR code.

It's called Courage to Grow. The campaign that can be seen around 77 different businesses in Milwaukee, Appleton, Madison, Racine and many other cities. These businesses, known as Bravemakers, are not only allies to the LGBTQ+ community, but they're also a safe place they can go to receive support.

This message is meant to help raise awareness during Pride Month. There are a dozen businesses along 2nd Street in Walker's Point that have agreed to participate ahead of this weekend's parade and festivities. While many of the flowers will likely be trampled and overlooked in the crowds, organizers say that's part of the symbolism.

"Over 1.7 million homeless youth are on the streets every night and 40 percent identify as LGBTQ+ and if you look at these flowers, they're not growing in a garden or in a safe space in our yard. They're growing through cracks and crevices, popping up and surviving in places that they shouldn't,' said Courage co-founder Brad Schlaikowski.
