NOW: Court documents reveal details of shootout in West Allis police chase reaching speeds of 100 mph

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) – Charges have been filed in a police chase through West Allis into Wauwatosa on Monday, Oct. 13.

Twenty-six-year-old Jianna Hughley of West Allis and 21-year-old Preetkamala Singh of Oak Creek are both charged with multiple felonies, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide.

According to West Allis police, around 1 a.m. on Oct. 13, officers responded to a suspicious white SUV near the Home 2 Suites hotel on 70th Street. Police attempted to stop the SUV, but the driver, Singh, did not pull over and started to speed away from officers.

The SUV was pursued southbound on 70th St. and turned west on W. National Ave. The pursuit continued westbound on National Avenue and then north on 84th St. During the pursuit, one of the two people in the SUV fired numerous gunshots at the West Allis officers. The West Allis officers fired back and eventually deployed stop sticks near 84th and Greenfield.

The SUV came to a stop near Glenview and Wisconsin in Wauwatosa where Hughley and Singh were arrested. A firearm and a substance on the center console of the SUV that presented positive for the presence of methamphetamine were found in the car.

Court documents say the pursuit went over a course of 3.4 miles and lasted three minutes and 32 seconds, reaching speeds up to 100 mph.

Singh said he was the driver of the white SUV and the vehicle belonged to his girlfriend, Hughley. He said he drove away from police because he had an open warrant.

When asked who fired the gun that he admitted he owned, Singh said that he was on drugs and did not remember.

Singh appeared in court on Saturday.

“He took off because he knew he had a warrant. He did not want to face anything in the case he has open, a machine gun case,” prosecuting attorney Ryan Johnson said.

Officers say they found 22 shell casings matching the pistol found inside the white SUV.

Singh and Hughley are scheduled to appear in court again on Oct 28. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
