Crime Stoppers: Man on the run after armed robbery at Milwaukee liquor store
NEXT:

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An armed robbery where the victim turned the tables on the suspect, saving the day. But a mix-up led to the suspect escaping police custody. Now, it's up to the community to get him off the streets.

The armed robbery happened around noon on July 19 at Teutonia Wine & Liquor -- located at 2232 W. Capitol Drive.

Surveillance video inside the store shows what happened. In the video, you see a man dressed in all black pointing a gun at the store clerk and demanding money.

Another man seen in the video, identified as a customer who had nothing to do with the robbery, look as if he doesn't know what to do.

With the gun pointed at her, the clerk can be seen screaming with her hands up.

Then, video shows the owner of the store come out of his office and step in with a gun of his own.

"There were other patrons in the store. Obviously, people took off running in fear. People outside heard the gunshots, not many witnesses outside who saw what happened. It was right before 12 o'clock, lots of people out lots of traffic it was a nice day," said Milwaukee Police Detective Michael Slomczewski. "The unique thing, I would say, the victim and owner of the store actually took action instead of being paralyzed by fear."

Police are now searching for a known suspect, identified as 28-year-old Tommonte T. Jefferson.

Jefferson was already out on probation for another armed robbery. Detectives say after this incident, Jefferson went to the hospital because the store owner shot him twice in the arm.

Jefferson was under police surveillance at the hospital, but he didn't get charged in time which led him to being discharged.

There is a felony warrant out for Jefferson's arrest.

Police describe Jefferson as a Black male, standing 6' tall, with distinct tattoos. They believe he's a danger to the public.

If you have any information about Jefferson or this case, you're urged to call Milwaukee Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS and report your tip anonymously. If your tip leads to his arrest, you get cash. The P3 Tips App is also available and anonymous.
