Criminal charges pending against man at center of hours-long standoff in Fredonia; suspect identified

OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Matthew Novak. 

Novak is currently being held at the Ozaukee County Jail and has been charged with the following:

  • Battery or threat to a law enforcement officer. 
  • Endanger safety by use of a dangerous weapon. 
  • First degree reckless dangering safety. 
  • Failure to comply with law enforcement officer's attempt to take person into custody. 



FREDONIA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- New details have been released about the standoff in the Ozaukee County village of Fredonia earlier this month. 

The suspect, a 37-year-old man, held authorities at bay for 38 hours after neighbors reported hearing loud music and gunshots inside the home on Fox Glen Road. 

The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office reported the man is being held at behavioral health facility, with a court hearing scheduled for later this week. Charges have not been filed, so his name has not been released. 

The home, which was structurally damaged during the standoff, has been stabilized and searched. 

Inside the home, investigators found four handguns, nine long guns, ammunition and several electronic devices.
