MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Public Museum is partnering with a Wisconsin icon. Culver's has made a $1 million donation to the new museum, part of which will be used to create a custard shop exhibit.
The custard storefront will be part of the "Milwaukee Revealed" gallery, a revamped version of the current "Streets of Old Milwaukee" exhibit.
The museum says visitors will be able to enter the model custard shop to experience sights and smells, as well as learn about Wisconsin's dairy industry, and Milwaukee's iconic dessert.
"We want to showcase the stories of people from throughout Wisconsin and the cultures and traditions that we hold dear," said Julie Quinlan Brame, senior vice president of development for the Milwaukee Public Museum.
"We're both so excited, relative to what custard meant to our state and what it meant to our business," said Curt Culver, Curt and Sue Culver Family Foundation.
The fundraising goal for the future museum is $420 million. They're now nearing $150 million.
The new museum is expected to open in early 2027 at 6th and McKinley in Deer District.
