Happy New Year! The start of January means December is in the records! December had some chilly days, especially around the middle of the month when the low dropped into the single digits above and below-zero, but also had some warmth with a few days with highs in the 50s. Overall the month ended with an average temperature of 32.9 degrees which is 3.4 degrees above average and goes down as the 18th warmest December on record.
We had some snow in December, but overall it was below average on snowfall. Milwaukee measured 5.7" of snowfall during the month which is almost half the average monthly snowfall of 10.4". It goes down as the 51st least snowy December on record but well above December, 2023's numbers which didn't get any measurable snow at all with just a trace tied for the least amount on record.
What we lacked in snowfall we didn't make up too much with rain. Precipitation for the month was under an inch with 0.98" which is nearly half the average of 1.88" and much less than December last year. Officially it goes down as the 28th driest December on record.
January is the snowiest month on average with nearly 15" of snow on average and precipitation of 1.79". The temperatures don't move much during the month but slightly cool with average highs going from 32-31 and lows going from 19 to 17.
