Defense attorneys in eye drop murder trial ask to withdraw days before sentencing

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Two attorneys who defended Jessy Kurczewski at her recent murder trial have asked to withdraw from the case, just three days before Kurczewski's sentencing.

Last month in Waukesha, Kurczewski was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide and theft. She was accused of poisoning her friend, Lynn Hernan, with eye drop fluid.

The withdrawal requests were filed Monday by defense attorneys Donna Kuchler and Pablo Galaviz.

In a letter to Judge Jennifer Dorow, Kuchler says she believes she is "duty bound" to withdraw and she cites a meeting that included the lead detective in the case.

According to court documents, the withdrawal requests will be considered at Jessy Kurczewski's sentencing hearing, scheduled for Thursday.
