DENVER, Co. (CBS 58) -- The Green Bay Packers take on the Denver Broncos this Sunday, Dec. 14, on CBS 58 and every week, the Broncos pick a local Denver artist to create an official game day poster. Believe it or not, this week, it's a die-hard Packers fan who was picked!
Joe Palec graduated from Cedarburg High School in 2010 before moving to Denver 15 years ago. And his art is hard to look away from.
"I call it extreme doodling," said Palec. "Just like you would've done in elementary school in that margin above the loose-leaf paper. I've just taken that and elevated that."
"Someone once told me that people typically look at artwork for four seconds. So, if you can get someone to look at it even longer, you're doing your job," he continued.
Palec's pieces are hundreds of little pieces combined to tell a story and entertain, with a little 'Where's Waldo' flare and hidden 'Easter eggs' as he likes to call them.
And before you ask, yes, it was tough for a die-hard Packers fan to create a work of art for a different team.
"It was difficult, man," he said. "I tried even sneaking in some Packers stuff in there but man, that Broncos marketing team, they're intuitive, they knew."
In the process of creating the artwork, he first tried to make the Red Rocks Amphitheater look like cheese.
"Immediately, they just said 'no' at that," said Palec. "But I hid a few things in there, maybe. I definitely added the John Elway helicopter play from '97 so you can catch that in there."
Palec will be at Sunday's game with his dad. And while he will be cheering on the Packers, he is still proud of the work he did for the Broncos.
