NOW: DNC perimeter fortified after protesters breach fence around United Center

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The perimeter around the DNC was fortified with more fencing after a small group of protesters breached the fence around the United Center Monday.

Chicago's Police Superintendent Larry Snelling says officers showed restraint and the response was "perfect."

A total of 13 people were arrested.

"We do expect to see more protest, more demonstrative tactics," said Supt. Snelling. "Again, we're up to the challenge. The city is up to the challenge."

Snelling declined to immediately release any body camera footage.

He said some officers were hit by water bottles and pepper sprayed, but there were no major injuries.

Chicago police were also out in force for another protest- this one in front of the Israeli Consulate in downtown Chicago.

That's the same building as the Ogilvie Transportation Center. Metra closed that train station entrance, affecting commuters.

The group behind the protest had flyers referencing the chaos outside the DNC in 1968, when riots broke out during the convention in Chicago.
