WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- According to TRIP, a national research group, the average driver in the Milwaukee area loses $3,424 a year by driving on roads and bridges that are crumbling, congested or lacking in certain safety features. 

The report, "Wisconsin Transportation By the Numbers: Providing a Modern, Sustainable Transportation System in the Badger State," examines road conditions, transportation funding, congestion levels and traffic deaths statewide.

"The TRIP report estimates that the average motorist in the Milwaukee area is spending an additional 58 hours annually stuck in traffic and wasting 20 gallons of fuel due to growing traffic congestion," said Rocky Moretti, TRIP research group spokesperson. 

With gas prices soaring, that's a big deal. The report also shows road conditions have a wide-ranging impact on Wisconsin's economy.
