Driver arrested for 5th OWI after rollover crash into Veterans Park
CBS 58 WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 39-year-old Waukesha man faces a fifth drunken driving charge after crashing his car into Veterans Park on Monday, Dec. 29 the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office said.
The single-car crash happened around 11:13 a.m. when the man drove off Lincoln Memorial Drive and into the park. The car flipped onto its roof and landed on the retention wall at the edge of the Oak Leaf Trail with part of it overhanging Lake Michigan, according to the sheriff's office.
The crash happened just feet from the General Douglas MacArthur statue.
Deputy sheriffs and fire-rescue personnel responded and safely removed the driver from the vehicle. He suffered no apparent major injuries but was taken to a hospital for examination, officials said.
The man faces a criminal charge of fifth offense operating while intoxicated. Other charges may follow.
