Milwaukee’s oldest symphony celebrates 90 years of music
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It was a chaotic morning for staff at the Milwaukee County Zoo after a senior elephant took a tumble and needed to be rescued.
Luckily, Ruth the elephant- who's in her 40s- is back up and walking.
A fallen elephant is anything but a gray area for Milwaukee first responders, who train for this regularly.
According to the Milwaukee County Zoo's executive director, Ruth fell down around 11 a.m. Tuesday after she was pushed over by another elephant.
Drone video shows fire crews seemingly using a front-end loader to safely get the elephant to her feet. Zoo leaders say for an old pachyderm, they're heard this is common.
"If you can equate it to managing your grandparents and things like that, people fall, and you have to manage that when they get older," Executive Director Amos Morris said.
Ruth is indoors until they get a good feel for her condition and reintroduce her to the two other elephants.
