Elkhart Lake police warn public of parasite causing swimmer's itch

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Elkhart Lake police are issuing a warning about swimming in the area. 

They say a parasite may be present in the lake which can cause swimmer's itch. It can cause an allergic reaction and rash on your skin. 

Swimmer's itch is not contagious and does not spread from person to person. 

Elkhart Lake police say if you do go for a swim, make sure you towel off and shower immediately after leaving the water.
