FBI visits private home of Milwaukee County's elections director

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson announced that a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) representative visited the private home of Milwaukee County's elections director, indicating the visit is tied to Milwaukee's 2020 ballots.

Christenson's statement confirmed the visit, stating that they'll be following up on the nature of it, but prefaced it saying that the 2020 Presidential Election has been proven over and over again to be fair and transparent.

“The 2020 Presidential Election was fair and transparent, and its results are accurate. This has been proven repeatedly over the last six years by the post-election canvass, the Presidential Election Recount, State court-based challenge, Federal court-based challenge, the forensic audit by the Wisconsin’s Legislative Audit Bureau, and two additional independent audits. Continuing to relitigate settled questions does not strengthen public confidence in elections but it undermines it."

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley responded, condemning the actions by the FBI, saying that they crossed the line with the visit.

"President Trump’s ongoing attempts to relitigate the 2020 election, which he lost, have crossed a line if he is sending FBI agents to the private residence of Milwaukee County’s elections director," said Crowley.

Both Christenson and Crowley have stated that Milwaukee County officials have always cooperated with law enforcement, but that this visit brings concerns of intimation.

"Regardless of how this situation evolves, the facts are clear: In 2020, election clerks did their jobs. The election was safe and secure. Donald Trump lost the popular vote in Wisconsin," stated Crowley. "No amount of fear and intimidation from the Trump administration will change that truth.”

As of now, the true intention of the visit is under review.
