BELOIT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A business fire in Beloit has led to the evacuation of nearby homes early Friday, Jan. 12, as crews tackle the fire that they say is made more difficult by a large number of tires at the site and challenging winter weather conditions.
The Beloit Fire Department reported the fire and subsequent evacuations via social media around 3 a.m., in the area of Yates and Copeland. Homes south of the fire are being evacuated due to smoke conditions.
Merrill Elementary School at 635 Nelson Ave. has been named by officials as a temporary warming location, with the Red Cross also providing assistance.
There are no reports of injuries. The Beloit Fire Department will be posting updates about the situation on their Facebook page.
