WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- First responders and medical facilities in Wauwatosa teamed up Tuesday, Oct.3, to practice their emergency preparedness plan ahead of the 2024 Republican National Convention.
The command center for the practice was held Inside the Milwaukee Medical Regional Center.
Emergency response crews practiced their training and communication with various law enforcement and outside agencies.
The practice is aimed at providing all first responders with the tools needed to tackle worst case scenarios.
"Thinking of a critical incident, it is not uncommon, unfortunately, for there to be protests and civil unrest during conventions," said Cpt. Luke Vetter, of the Wauwatosa Patrol Bureau.
First responders at Tuesday's practice ran a mock scenario addressing the possibility of civil unrest.
"There could be injury, there could be people that don’t listen, and then how does that transfer to dealing with injured that are going to come to our level one trauma center in the area here," said Vetter.
Vetter went on to say the departments have scheduled trainings throughout the year.
The Republican National Convention is slated to kick off July 15.
