Fond du Lac officials: 4-year-old fatally shoots 2-year-old sibling after finding loaded gun in vehicle

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 2-year-old child is dead after being shot by their 4-year-old sibling inside a vehicle in Fond du Lac. 

It happened Friday morning, April 10. According to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office, a 911 caller reported they were out for a walk when they came upon the child injured at a nearby residence. 

The 2-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts. 

The sheriff's office says an investigation indicates three young children were inside a vehicle in the driveway of their home, and in the brief time their parent went back inside the home to grab something they forgot, a 4-year-old child in the vehicle found a loaded firearm in the center console. The firearm discharged and struck the 2-year-old child. 

No one else was injured. 

The incident remains under investigation. Authorities say the family involved is cooperating with investigators.
