Former Marquette University lacrosse player charged in crash that killed 2 teammates
Marquette University MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A former Marquette University lacrosse player has been charged in connection with a crash that left two of his teammates dead.
The crash happened Sept. 5, near 27th and St. Paul in Milwaukee. Twenty-year-old Noah Snyder from Getzville, New York and 19-year-old Scott Michaud from Springboro, Ohio, were killed.
Amandria Brunner, a 42-year-old West Allis woman, was first charged in the crash. Officials say Brunner smelled of alcohol following the crash and told officers she had been drinking prior to driving. Brunner was arrested, and her blood alcohol content was 0.133.According to a criminal complaint, an investigation of the crash revealed Brunner -- driving a Ford Ranger -- made a left turn onto St. Paul Avenue from 27th Street when she struck a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Getzville and Michaud were backseat passengers of the Jeep.
According to the complaint, 21-year-old Peter McColgan was behind the wheel of the Jeep at the time of the crash. Marquette University lists McColgan as a player on the lacrosse team for the 2024-2025 season.
Investigators analyzed data from both vehicles involved in the crash.
Brunner's vehicle, the Ford, was traveling at 11.8 mph at the time of the collision. Officials say McColgan depressed the accelerator of the Jeep 100% at the start of the crash, and was traveling at 53 mph at the time of the crash.
McColgan reportedly told investigators at the time of the crash, he was traveling at 30 mph.
Authorities noted in the criminal complaint, video surveillance shows the Jeep appearing to speed up through the intersection in an attempted to "beat" a yellow light.
A statement released by Marquette University Tuesday said in part:
"Our priority remains caring for our campus community, and especially our men’s lacrosse team that has suffered a profound tragedy with the loss of their teammates. We offer our continued prayers for the families, friends and loved ones of Noah and Scott, who will always be cherished members of our Marquette family."
McColgan has been charged with two counts of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle.
He's due in court for an initial appearance on July 16.
