Waukesha County Sheriff\'s Office

WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A former lieutenant with the Waukesha County Sheriff's Office pleaded guilty Friday, July 12, to smuggling contraband to an inmate.

According to the US Department of Justice, 34-year-old Johanna Grace provided marijuana and a cellphone to an inmate of the Waukesha County Jail while serving as a lieutenant, coordinating with associates outside the jail to bring the contraband into the facility. The DOJ says when she realized she'd be caught, Grace shared internal law enforcement reports with those same associates.

She faces a statutory maximum of five years' imprisonment. Sentencing is set for Oct. 9.

In August of 2023, Grace was charged with abuse of a resident of a penal facility in connection to the death of an inmate.

Court records show she pleaded not guilty in December and was bound over for trial.
