WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58)— It’s day six of the Wisconsin State Fair and every day is a new deal and discount.

On Monday, Aug. 9 and Tuesday, Aug. 10, plein air painters filled the fairgrounds. The artists paint whatever is in front of them, and at the State Fair that means things like the WonderFair Wheel, food and the Cream Puff Pavilion.

Lauren Curtis was one artist painting the Cream Puff Pavilion.

“I’ve never been to the State Fair before and I’ve never done this before, like painting a plein air thing,” said Curtis. “I saw it and I was like oh that’s a classic Wisconsin thing -- cream puffs and cheese curds at the fair.”

When asked how she felt, “hot” was the only thing that came to mind.

It was a hot day at the fair. For Toni Mille, it was even hotter near the grills.

She owns Mille’s Italian Sausage at the fair. On Tuesday, the popular cannoli is discounted to $3 instead of the usual $5.

“We have a lot of people that love the cannolis, and this is a way to introduce other people who have never tried them,” said Mille.

It’s part of a fair-wide event called Crazy Grazin’ Days. Twenty vendors throughout the fairgrounds offer samples of food and discounts.

The fun doesn’t stop Tuesday. For those planning to come to the fair on Wednesday, first responders, health care workers and grocery store workers all get in free from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Thursday, educators are being celebrated. They will get in free from open until 3 p.m.

State Fair officials say these people deserve it after the last year.

“This has been a tough year for everyone, but especially these people in these industries. We want to make sure we are honoring them," said Tess Kerksen, public relations manager for the Wisconsin State Fair.
