State DHS determines where Morgan Geyser will be held; decision remains sealed
WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The state of Wisconsin is not taking a position on where Morgan Geyser is held pending the decision on the petition to revoke conditional release, according to Assistant District Attorney Abbey Nickolie.
The decision of where an individual is held lies solely with the Department of Health Services (DHS) under state law, Nickolie said.
After fleeing from her group home last month, Geyser is still waiting to find out where she will be placed. Geyser was one of the women involved in the 2014 Slender Man stabbing in Waukesha. DHS has decided where Geyser will remain for now – but that decision has been sealed by a judge.
Currently, Geyser is still listed as an inmate in the county jail.
Back in November, Madison police said 23-year-old Geyser cut off her monitoring bracelet and escaped the group home she was granted a conditional release to. Geyser was found and arrested the next day in Illinois at a truck stop.
She was extradited back to Waukesha County and has been at the jail since.
According to court documents, Geyser could remain at the jail or be sent back to the Winnebago Health Institute, where she had been prior to her conditional release, or the Mendota Health Institute.
Geyser’s attorney Anthony Cotton has requested Geyser be sent back to Winnebago.
Her attorney has filed a request the hearing be delayed until after the holidays and a judge approved the request Thursday, Dec. 4.
At this time, there is no date listed for Geyser's next hearing.
CBS 58 reached out to Cotton, who had no comment at this time.
WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- New details in the escape and arrest of Morgan Geyser.
Geyser, one of the women involved in the 2014 Slender Man stabbing, escaped from her group home last month.
She was arrested in Illinois and has been in Waukesha County Jail since extradition.
Geyser's attorney recently filed a motion to have her returned to the Winnebago Mental Health Institute.
The state responded by saying they are not taking a stance on the matter and that either location is adequate.
It is now up to the judge to determine if a relocation of Geyser is warranted.
Geyser is due back in court Dec. 22.
