MADISON (CBS 58) - Gov. Tony Evers supporters have been celebrating since election night, and they partied Monday in Madison for the Inauguration Gala.

Along with music and dancing, the crowd gets a change to hear from the Governor.

“Tonight I’m thrilled to be here,” said excited Evers supporter Linda Ginsberg.

Supporters are celebrating tonight after tony evers was sworn in at the capitol.

“We’ve been waiting for this for 8 years,” added Alan Ginsberg.

“We’re very excited for tonight, we’re excited for change in Wisconsin,” said another supporter, Bevin Christie.

In his inauguration speech, Gov. Evers outlined his priorities including health care, schools and roads.

But he says none of that will get done unless there is a change in Madison.

“We cannot fix these problems unless people come before politics,” said Gov. Evers.

He says politics is too divisive in Wisconsin.

“We must turn the page on the tired politics of the past, we must lead by example,” said Gov. Evers, “it’s time to remake and repair our state and reclaim our better history.”

“I think it’s a great message,” said Ginsberg.

It’s a message that resonates with his supporters like Alan, even if they think it will be an uphill battle.

“I’d like to be hopeful but I don’t have a lot of evidence that the other side is eager,” said Linda Ginsberg.

“I do think it’s possible, I think we have a lot more in common than we have differences and we need to be at the same table and talking about those similarities,” said Christie.

Evers’ message is clear, the new Governor is ready to move forward on a new course.

“The people of Wisconsin demanded a change this November, and that change is coming,” said Gov. Evers.

The Inauguration Gala featured speeches from Gov. Evers, Lt. Gov. Barnes and Senator Tammy Baldwin, along with music, dancing and food.
