HARTLAND, Wis (CBS 58) -- Reindeer, ice skating and raising money for a good cause.

On Sunday, Wishmakers of Wisconsin hosted their 5th Annual Skating with Santa event at the Mullet Ice Center.

"Inside the Mullet Ice Center, we have kids skating. We have cookie decorating, giveaways for all of our participants and it's really just a great way to get the community together," said Allie Jorgensen, WishMakers Wisconsin Chair.

Nearly 100 people came together to help kids battling life altering illnesses.

"To be eligible for a wish, you have to be deemed by a physician that your illness is life altering so basically it's for kids who are really battling some hard things so Make-A-Wishe's entire purpose is to grant hope for these families that spend more time than they'd like at doctors in hospitals," Jorgensen explained.

In the five years of hosting Skating with Santa, WishMakers of Wisconsin have raised $125,000. That money goes toward granting wishes for kids like 11-year-old Daxton.

"I wanted to go climbing, but I also wanted to go to Universal and Disney. I really like Harry Potter and so that's what we chose in the end, and it just was really fun," said Daxton.

"Daxton was diagnosed in utero with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and he had four open heart surgeries and threw that there were some health complications, some ups and downs," Krista Paul, Daxton's mom explained.

Daxton is one of six kids but instead of being at home most of his childhood has been in hospitals.

"My favorite part was just getting to like be with my family and riding a ride," said Daxton.

"Our family, the kids have spent so much time without a mom or dad because we were with Daxton and so it also celebrated them too," said Paul.

Paul says Make-A-Wish made sure they got that family time.

"Make-A-Wish allowed everyone to come with, and it was just really important to our family because it was probably not something we've ever would've done," said Paul.

While the cost of a wish can vary, WishMaker of Wisconsin Chair Allie Jorgenson says it costs around $8,000 for one wish.

"It does take a lot of resources and a lot from the community to come together to actually make these wishes happen for these kids so we really rely on events like this," said Jorgensen.

Jorgenson says it's a glimmer of hope for kids and their families that have been through so much.
