Green Bay Packers unveil white helmets ahead of 'Winter Warning' game
GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Green Bay Packers have introduced white alternate helmets, set to debut during the "Winter Warning" game against the Houston Texans on Sunday, Oct. 20.
According to a Thursday, Aug. 1 statement by the Packers, the special game will encourage fans to wear white to create a blizzard-like atmosphere at Lambeau Field.
The new helmets feature a white face mask and shell, adorned with the classic dark green Packers "G" logo and stripes.
This alternate uniform combination will include white jerseys, pants and socks. Fans attending the game will receive a white scarf, adding to the snowy visual effect.
The use of white helmets has a historical precedent for the Packers, according to the team. They note that 1956 was when they first wore them with green jerseys and white pants. This uniform choice was part of an experiment with alternate colors, which continued through the late 1950s.
The Packers Pro Shop offers the new merchandise line, available in-store and online.
